I can’t get this song out of my head, although I have a hard time listening to it. It’s one of those songs…you know the kind I’m talking about. I had goose bumps covering my arms. I found myself zoned into the lyrics and was on the verge of tears. And that was the first time I heard it.
It effected me enough to write about it. That’s good stuff.
I heard this while riding in the car with a friend. As soon as it came on, I recognized the voice and that I didn’t know it. How did I miss something new from Mr. Mathers?
My friend, being the music lover that she is, and a kindred soul, drove past where we were going, just so I could finish listening to it. Afterwards, we couldn’t stop talking about it. And in a kind-of-funny, kind-of-not way, we both wanted to pick up our phones and call our fathers. I silently gave a nod to my Momma in heaven.
People, no matter who you are or what you come from, grow. They change. Life has a way of doing this to all of us. It also forces us to change our perspective on things. We understand things differently when we grow up. That is the gest of this song, in much simply terms.
I’ve always been a fan of Eminem, which is surprising to some. I admit, he has a few songs I would rather just not listen to but for the most part, I think he is a genius. The raw emotion in his lyrics is something that moves me every time I listen to his music. And his ridiculous, boyish charm will make me move, when I’m in the mood for that.
This song, though. Wow. It struck a nerve because it is parallel to so many of the feelings I have towards both of my parents.
If you’re a fan or even if his music repulsed you before, give this one a shot.
And now I need to go handle my 19 mth old, who’s pop tart just fell apart…and so did he. Hope you enjoy!
