I see colored jeans, hugging their ankles. One bare shoulder, claiming the top of the fashion food chain. Neon has taken a generational curve, back around. The boys on one wall, girls on the other. It’s familiar, only now, I’m the chaperone.

Click the badge to learn about the flash fiction challenge that is the Gargleblaster. This week the sentence prompt was: “Have all your clocks stopped?”
I love your take on the prompt, and this was beautifully done 🙂 Very cool…
Hey thanks!
I just had a flashback to junior high dances.
Ha! Good…that’s what I was going for 🙂
oh yes, a perfect way to answer that prompt question. I am always astounded at how fashion comes full circle..I almost can’t wait to see what “Fad” will be next.
this was fun (and yes a little sad. How old are we now? 🙂 )
Well this was a bit of a tall tale for me. I have a ways to go before I am chaperoning my now 5 year old’s school dances. However, this time will be here before I know it.
I am old enough though, to take a stroll through Target and see many (too many) clothes that resembled my daily outfits circa the early 90’s. It’s odd.
LOL..
I have 6 yr old twins, so I know of which you speak. It won’t be long for either of us.
And this fiction, felt real, so there’s that. 🙂
have a nice afternoon
6 yo twins…phew! Hands. Full.
This is so fun! I remember when my parents chaperoned my dances and, in turn, when I did so for my kids. Once I volunteered for the post prom midnight to 4:00am boat cruise for Prom. Yikes!
That must have been surreal!
creative take on the prompt
Thanks 🙂
yes you definitely brought me back in time. yuck. 😉 🙂
I was happy to. And I’m sorry 🙂
Excellently done.
Thank you, thank you.
I love the image of girls on one side, boys on the other. Some things never change. 🙂
That’s how it always was at my school dances…well the early years anyway. 🙂
I love “claiming the top of the fashion food chain.” Great entry. I am 41 and remember the neon of my youth!
I’m glad you liked it and thanks. Oh the neon…
Right? As an 80′s girl with a daughter, I can relate to this so well. 🙂
Cheers to the 80’s!
Ha! Stopped clocks indeed. Great, creative take on the prompt question. Thanks for linking it up!
Thanks. I was in awe over a pair of over-alls at Target the other day that left me singing “Don’t go chasing waterfalls…”. I think the recycling of fashion was on the brain. 🙂
Excellent response to the prompt. I’ve been there with my children. What a real, truthful response. Well done.
Blessings,
Cheryl
It will be here before I know it…school dances, heart break…
Yes isn’t it amazing that fashion comes full circle. Great take on the prompt Dawn.
Thank you so much. I remember asking for bell bottom jeans when I was about 15 and my Mom rolling her eyes at me 🙂
Love your take on this. As a child of the 80s with a 10 year old daughter who dressed up as an 80s chic for Halloween I love this. She wore off the shoulder shirt and neon gloves and legwarmers!
Hah! No way, no how. Even when the Little Prince is old enough to attend dances, you couldn’t pay me to go back to one, even to chaperone.
Think about how different and even more awkward that would be. Kind of makes me shudder a bit.
This is such a great take! Loved the last line 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Ah,time has come full circle-how it flies, huh?Love this:-)
Thank you so much 🙂
Oh my gosh, that is what it’s like having been a child of the 80s and seeing it come ’round again. Love it!
Thanks 🙂
My almost 14 year-old and friends make this clear all the time.
Damn those teenagers!
